1. The Technical Setup (Unlocking your "Superpowers")
The Handle (@): Go to youtube.com and claim your name. This is your unique ID so students and brands can find you.
Verify for Custom Thumbnails: Go to YouTube Studio > Settings > Channel > Feature Eligibility. You must complete the Phone Verification.
Why? Without this, you cannot upload Custom Thumbnails, and you cannot post videos longer than 15 minutes.
Safety First: Enable 2-Step Verification in your Google Security settings. YouTube will not let you join the Partner Program to get paid if this is turned off.
2. Professional Branding (Your Storefront)
The Banner (2560 x 1440 px): Think of this as your billboard. It should tell people what you do and when you post.
The Bio (SEO): Your "About" section is how the algorithm finds you. Use keywords like "Wig Reviews" or "Tech Tutorials" in the first two sentences.
Links in Header: Use the Customization Tab in Studio to add clickable links to your Wix Blog, Instagram, or Affiliate Store directly to your channel header.
3. "Hidden" Settings for Success
Upload Defaults: Go to Settings > Upload Defaults. Put your social media links and Affiliate Disclaimers (like "I earn a commission from links below") here so they appear automatically on every video.
The Audio Library: Don't use random music! Use the YouTube Audio Library for 100% free, copyright-safe music so your videos never get muted.
Channel Trailer: Upload a short video for people who haven't subscribed yet to tell them why they should join your community.
4. Preparing for Monetization
Remember the tiers we discussed:
The Goal: Aim for 500 subscribers first to unlock "Fan Funding" (Super Chats and Memberships).
The Strategy:
Even before you hit those numbers, use your links in your descriptions.
Assignment:
Go to your Feature Eligibility settings right now. If you don't see a green "Enabled" checkmark next to Intermediate Features, your channel isn't set up the right way yet!
